Speak with Power, Lead with Pride, Be the Legend

Greetings to all fellow Toastmasters of District 89,

About District 89

Our District 89 was founded in 2012, with Angela Zhang, DTM serving as our very first District Governor. Over the past 14 years, countless past District leaders and members have devoted their precious time and energy to build our District. Thanks to their dedication, District 89 has achieved remarkable milestones. We honour every member who has contributed to our shared success.

My Toastmasters Story

My own Toastmasters journey went back long before the formal establishment of District 89. In 2005. I joined a corporate club with their Asia‑Pacific office in Hong Kong and quickly began reaping the personal and professional benefits of this community.

My first Area contest milestone arrived in 2011, when I competed in both the Humorous Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest. I was fortunate enough to achieve a placing in the Area Evaluation Contest. That first taste of contest experience fuelled my ongoing commitment within Toastmasters. I still cherish the warm encouragement received from our beloved big sister Kitty WONG, DTM, at the post‑contest dinner. Her spirit of service and kindness has continued to guide me throughout my entire Toastmasters journey.

Eager to broaden my Toastmasters experience, I visited different community clubs and eventually found my home at a Club of long‑history, where I remain a member to this day.

Celebrating my 10th anniversary with Toastmasters, I stepped up to embrace the opportunity to serve at District 89 Spring 2015 Hong Kong Conference held in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Following a 12-yea-lapse, Hong Kong will be the host city for the District 89 Conference in 2027, commemorating the 30th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China.

A Lifelong Self‑growth Journey

It is my great honour to walk alongside you as part of the District 89 Toastmasters family, where we learn, share and grow together to become better versions of ourselves.

Self‑growth is a lifelong journey. Whether you are a brand‑new member or a distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), there is always further to go from where you stand now. Sky is the limit and our potential knows no bounds. While many of us invest in wealth‑generating assets, never forget to invest in yourself. The knowledge and experience you gain from self‑investment can never be taken away from you.

I am proud to serve as your District Director for 2026‑27. I sincerely encourage every one of you to advance and elevate your Toastmasters endeavour for continuous personal transformation:

* Attend Club meetings regularly and complete your Pathways speech projects;

* Share the real‑life value and benefits you have gained, and invite guests to your club meetings;

* Step forward to serve as club, district officers or committee members when the opportunity arises.
